Hungary

Dear friends

This night we’ve arrived at our new destination, we left the beautiful Slowakia and took the plane to HUNGARY woehoeee!! 

We’re staying in a very cozy hotel near the Donau, that’s the river which also ran through Slowakia.

Today we want to take it easy because we are tired due to the trip. We just want to see the environment in the neighbourhood of our hotel and of course we need to change our money again because in Hungary you have another currency: Forint

To give you an idea, 1 euro is 294,919 Forint. The life in Hungary is very cheap if you compare it to Belgium.

Tomorrow we want to visit the capital, which is Budapest. I heard that it is a very impressive city, so we are very eager to see it :D

The economy in Hungary knew a strong change after 1989, the economy went from a plan economy with market elements to a social economy. Because of that their industry changed a lot, all the companies which weren’t rentable were closed. And the agricultural collectives were disbanded. It was a very difficult period for the economy of Hungary. After so many years they still have a black economy, in 2010 they wanted to go from Forint to Euro but because of their weak economy they couldn’t join the European Union.

The streets in Hungary are very busy, that’s because their road network is closed. They have one nuclear power station here near by the Donau, maybe we go and visit the station later on the day. Hungary  has a lot of freshwater because the country is next to the sea. 

If we are in Budapest tomorrow I really want to see the Parliament building. I have a little book of Hungary with pictures of the building, it looks very big and beautiful and it is next to the water.

               

Now I’m talking about that building I want to give you some information of the politics of Hungary Do you know that Hungary is a republic? They have a president Pàll Schmitt, he is the head of state, every 5 year there are elections for the presidency. The premier is the leader of the Government, which is actually the same like in Belgium, we also have a premier who leads the government. They also have a parliament which exists of a chamber with 389 seats. The elections are not the like in Belgium, they have a very difficult system. Aurélie and me don’t know how the system works, but when we go to Budapest tomorrow and visit the parliamentary building, I’m sure that we will know everything about it.

Now we want to sleep a bit, because it was a long night!!
